Web Design Best Practices for New Developers

How to Create Portfolio-Worthy Work  – Web Design Best Practices for New Developers by SARAL GUPTA If you're a beginner developer, it can be difficult to find ways to use your limited knowledge to support yourself. And at the same time, you won't be able to hone your skills if you aren't using them full time. It's a precarious spot that I remember being in when I was starting out (much longer ago than I care to admit). And if you're anything like me, you'll probably end up taking on freelance web development work to make ends meet. This is especially useful if you're focused on expanding your knowledge of languages like Python and Java. But if you're inexperienced, there's a good chance you're going to need to start with web designs for individuals or small companies – at least until you have a decent portfolio that can lure in bigger clients. The trouble is, smaller clients often will want you to do things that – for lack of better terms – are u...

Web Development for Beginners – Learn Basic HTML and CSS to Build Your First Web Page  By SARAL GUPTA  Have you ever wondered how websites are built and designed? Do you want to learn the art of web development but you're not that tech savvy – yet? Well, then this tutorial is for you. It's an introduction to Web Development for beginners so you can learn the basics even if you're totally new to the topic. Now, before we can get deep into how HTML works, let's get a basic understanding of what Hyper-Text Markup Language actually means. Hyper-Text refers to the hyperlinks you see on text, an image, or a bookmark that redirects to another page, file, document, or another part of a web page. REMOTE WORKFORCE

The Taboo Of Remote Working And Hiring In India Companies might drumbeat about WFH, but many hiring managers still breathe an audible sigh when a WFH request lands on their desk The Taboo Of Remote Working And Hiring In India As fresh graduates looking for jobs, I remember my peers and I being wowed by the WFH (work from home) concept. We were all looking for a Google-style workplace which didn’t mind us taking naps while on the clock, or coding from a place that wasn’t ‘office’. A decade later, I see how WFH (and with the pandemic; work-from-anywhere) has become a reluctant norm across India. Companies might display it in bold type on their EVPs, but many hiring managers still breathe an audible sigh when a WFH request lands on their desk. It doesn’t stop there, however. Ask managers in India if they would be comfortable with hiring reportees in a different geography, and a litany of ifs and buts will ensue. I have a few thoughts as to why that might be. The inherent babu-ism of India...

Google’s next big Chrome update will rewrite the rules of the web

Google’s impending takedown of third-party cookies in Chrome is a big win for privacy.  Google Chrome is ditching third-party cookies for good. If all goes according to plan then future updates to the world’s most popular web browser will rewrite the rules of online advertising and make it far harder to track the web activity of billions of people. But it’s not that simple. What seems like a big win for privacy may, ultimately, only serve to tighten Google’s grip on the advertising industry and web as a whole. Critics and regulators argue the move risks putting smaller advertising firms out of business and could harm websites that rely on adverts to make money. For most people, the change will be invisible but, behind the scenes, Google is planning to put Chrome in control of some of the advertising process. To do this it plans to use browser-based machine learning to log your browsing history and lump people into groups alongside others with similar interests. ADVERTISEMENT...

Core Benefits of Accessible Website Design

5 Core Benefits of Accessible Website Design It's not enough to be beautiful. In website design as in real life, inner beauty counts at least as much. That's especially true when it comes to one of the core considerations you need to keep in mind as you build your website: accessibility. To make your website accessible means making sure that it's easy to read and understand for every type of audience. One in four adults today have some type of disability, and between 15% and 20% live with a disability that negatively impacts their ability to consume web content. How does your website account for that portion of potential customers? Think about it from your audience perspective: if you were blind, deaf, or could not use a mouse or trackpad, how would you navigate around the web? And, more importantly, how much preference would you give brands and organizations who understand and build towards your needs? The answer to that question is why so many businesses are starting to c...
